I used the base coat from the pewter kit.
See that "stippling" around the safe-fire selector?
I didn't get all the alcohol dried before I shot the base coat.
The paint immediately "fisheye'd". I almost did something about it, but it looks like old rust that was wire-brushed off years ago, so I left it.
A mistake isn't always a mistake.

But the topcoat they provide is grey, so I improvised.

I sprayed on flat black and brown enamel at random...

And used a paper towel soaked in mineral spirits (paint thinner) to wipe it away until I got the effect I wanted.
The furniture was done the same way, but without the silver base coat.

The front of the springer mag I converted, and the real NOS front grip I got at IMA.

Not quite authentic looking on the mag details, but it does work.
I think the antique job helps hide this.

The winder for the M14 hicap, turned sideways inside.

Want to know how to spot the CYMA Tommy from the Maroo?
The CYMA uses a Phillips screw in the rear pistol grip bottom,
the Marui has the proper slotted type.

That reminds me so much of bioshock, which I was just playing.

Killbucket, do you spend all day looking for new paint jobs to try?  Cheesy

Once again, excellent work. Makes the Tommy gun look quite realistic (yes, I was scrolling through the pictures trying to figure out if it was real or not).

While it looks "greasy", the wet areas are actually gloss clear.

It's dry as a bone,

But my wife won't touch it. "Looks like it was under your old El Camino"...

Mission Accomplished.

I'm calling it "WorkWorn", I'm going to offer this as a no-cost option on all my guns.

Not quite done, but here's a few teasers:

What looks like oil seeping out everywhere is actually clear gloss enamel.

I forgot to do up the selector lever, so this is the only side you get to see.
-And I need to beat the magazine up more.

UULLTTTRAAAA   COOOOOLL!!

But the handles and stocks don't match right.

Not meaning to be critical at all, but can you work some of your wonderful art there too?

Good call.
As I was doing this, I was imagining a backstory for it (what fun), maybe it's that old AK Hackworth shot 30 rounds from, after having just pulled it from a makeshift gravesite. It needed furniture, and only crap plastic was available.
The rubberised grips were on some real AK's. Bored soldiers (reticent conscripts, really) would peel off the rubber.
The rubber won't frikken' peel, tho, they did too good a job. So I used a Bondo file on it, beat it up best I could.

At the end of the day (I HATE that saying, here I am using it), this old MPEG goes on the wall. My next gun may be one of the ones with real wood, I'll do it up even better.

Meanwhile, This AK will be hooked to the battery in my truck for a YouTube "Airsoft Safety" video. I'm dropping in a Systema Hispeed this morning.
I'm sure I'll chew the piston teeth. Just a matter of how long it will take.

I don't think it works so well on the G36C and Varients. Since they are made of Fiberglass/plastic.
Mayea frayed plastic effect? Huh?

I will wield the gun,
I will also determine its aim,
I will put the ammo in the magazine, the magazine in the gun, pull the slide, and even disengage the safety,
what will kill is your intent.
So I will ask one more time,
What are your orders?

Maybe I should sandpaper the edges rough...Hmm.
I got the idea from looking at old car bumpers.
