Hi,

I got the washers today:

I sniped the edge off them with scissors and they fit fine.  The standoff is now 750V instead of 24V or 0V  Roll Eyes

At about 775V there is an air arc over to the bearing truss but that is pretty much expected.  I did pull the metal brush holder back from that.  If you push the bearing holder toward the truss the standoff voltage goes down to about 360V.  I did manage to get a picture of it arcing.

So the little washers solve the problem and make the motor electrically sound.  It is hard to say what odd problems this might have caused in the past with the Systema Magnum motor.  They are certainly well known for damaging MOSFETs but twisting wire pairs seemed to have already pretty much solved that.  I would expect mysterious blown fuses would have been the most obvious problem.  Motors that also appear to be dead shorted out would be one too.

If anyone wants a set of the washers, you can PM me your mailing address I will mail them to you for free.  You can download and print the instructions here (instructions not included in the mailing to save cost):

Hi,

I was stunned again!!  Wink

I ran across a story about how old Christmas tree lights burn out and blacked out the whole string.  But somebody used anodized aluminum wire to wrap around the normal wires to the filament.  If the filament failed, the high voltage across the dead bulb would short through the extra added anodized aluminum wire and restore the string of tree lights!!

I am sure it has patents to be found later...  But a very old "solution" seems to be the root cause of a very modern "problem"  Cheesy

Since this is the primary article about the magnum on this website I feel this should be mentioned here for easy reference:

Systema magnums are wrapped with 16 turns of 22awg magnet wire. There is no magical "systema wind" as some people would have you think.

Needles to say that if it shortcuts it's like shortcuting the battery, something is going to die Evil (Mosfet, wires, battery)
Never thought Japanese could do such a mistake, what a big surprise Roll Eyes

Is this also an issue on Turbo motors? I'm about to place an order for a MOSFET to fit my M14 (500fps), but have a Turbo motor in an MP5K I'm messing with and wondered if I need to think about that too.

Oh, hi by the way... first post here.

Cheers...
