This was my most ambitious project back in 2007 on these forums. A powerful MOSFET controller that can convert almost any AEG into a PTW. In other words, allowing your AEG to finally look
AND operate realistically! This project was started for 3 reasons:
1) Systema has only made the MP5 and M4 PTWs, with no plans to create PTWs for any eastern-bloc AEGs such as the AK series.
2) Automatic gas guns operate the most realistically but the need to buy gas canisters is not ideal for everyone.
3) Its not easy to part with the AEG you spent hundreds on customizing, not to mention the price tags for PTWs and gas guns.
The solution? The AWS Scorpion controller! For just $80 you can have your AEG converted into a PTW-like model with full bolt cocking AND ammo sensing for anti-dryfire lockout. It also has many features crammed in including those unique to only the AWS controllers (full cycle completion, adaptive RoF control, etc). Having the boards machine assembled also allows big savings to be passed on to the end-users; and considering I still have to do quite a bit of wire soldering, the price is justified!
Advanced Technology- Driven by a powerful PIC18LF2321 28-pin CPU, the most advanced of any retail AEG controller.
- Uses the latest in ultra-small SMD components to minimize board dimensions.
- 0.22F supercap and boost convertor allows normal operation on line-voltage dips down to 2.5V.
- Unaffected by Magnum/Turbo motors or any future "Ultra Magnum/Turbo" motors.
- Startup diagnostic prevents sudden firing if the trigger is shorted during battery connection.
- Short-circuit, under-voltage, over-voltage(ESD), and over-temperature protection.
- Micro-amp sleep current allows batteries to remain connected for several years.
MOSFET Trigger Switching- Eliminates damaging electrical arcing of the trigger switch contacts.
- Lower resistance compared to mechanical switching, increasing motor current.
- Driven by a IRLS3034 MOSFET, rated for 195A continuous operation.
Motor Active Braking- Eliminates motor spin-down time when powered off, preventing piston over-travel on semi-fire.
- Allows semi-fire to properly reset the piston in any AEG setup, preventing component stress.
- Driven by a SUM110P06 MOSFET, rated for 110A braking operation.
Full Cycle Completion- Gearbox always completes a shot cycle regardless of when the trigger is released.
- Allows ANY firing mode to properly reset the piston regardless of AEG setup.
- With the piston always reset, every shot gets the smoothest possible motor startup.
- Sensor detection of each cycle allows auto-adapting to decreasing RoF/battery voltage.
Sensor-based Burst Fire- Replaces full-auto with 3-round burst, 2-round burst, or semi-only firing modes.
- Sensor detection of each cycle provides reliable and foolproof burst fire operation. (no timing involved)
Adaptive RoF Control- Every cycle runs at FULL speed and PAUSES between each shot to reduce RoF.
- Adaptive RoF reduction to EXACTLY 10, 15, or 20 rnd/sec on any setup.
- Very realistic sound and feel when enabled on very high-speed AEGs.
Li-poly Protection- Monitors li-poly battery voltage and prevents firing when below 3.2v per cell.
- Calculates the cell voltage via the main line, reducing wire clutter.
- Compensates for voltage fluctuations during motor operation.
Dryfire-lock & Bolt Charging- Included sensor-modified hopup allows the AEG to prevent firing when empty (dryfire-lock).
- Switch add-on for the bolt release and/or charge handle resets the dryfire-lock.
- Less dryfiring reduces stress on the gearbox and decreases reload reaction time.
Hopup Tracer Unit- The sensor-modified hopup also has a built-in UV LED for charging tracer rounds.
- Draws power directly from the main battery so no extra batteries are needed.
- Automatically turns on ONLY when firing, maximizing power efficiency.
Serial Comm Port- Dedicated wire port for trasmitting signals to custom add-on circuits (ie: ammo display).
- Ouput signals include "shot fired", "no ammo", "bolt cocked", "low voltage", etc.
Everything is neatly categorized so people can clearly see what the
major features are.

Some of the common questions we get are:
Q: How do I enable/disable each of the features?A: We use the simplest and most direct method, a DIP switch located on the board as shown

(the image is a bit outdated, each pair of switches are now properly labeled)
And of course a chart to list the functions of each switch pair
Q: Is it difficult to install the Scorpion?A: Remember, this is a realism mod designed only for players who take realism very seriously! If you're happy with your AEG operating unrealistically (like a toy), I would not recommend you install this. That said, you will need to install 3 sensors. One for gear cycle detection, one for bolt release/handle sensing, and finally the modified hopup for sensing ammo; all of which are unavoidable. For me, installation takes less than 45 minutes and "I" find it very simple. Wire clutter will be no issue if you properly tape down the wires against the gearbox and tie up excess wire lengths.

Q: Which hopups are compatible?A: There are several hopups which "appear" to be compatible, but so far the only ones we are absolutely certain are compatible are the M4, AK, and SCAR hopups.

If you would like to help expand the list to "hopefully" include your AEG model, feel free to PM me! Photos of your hopup and the available space around the hopup within the AEG will be of big help. Even better if you let us borrow your AEG so we can attempt to install the Scorpion, which you can keep for free as a "thank you" for your support!
